Bellemeade Streetscape
As a complement to LeBauer Park and the Tanger Performing Arts Center, WSAA completed construction documents for streetscape improvements at Bellemeade St. and N. Davie St. in downtown Greensboro. The improvements will include a safer intersection alignment with raised pedestrian crossing, narrower street width with on-street parking for vehicles and food trucks and enhanced lighting and landscaping. Construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2016. Rendering by OJB.
North O'Henry Boulevard Waterline
Upon selection as an On-Call Consultant to the City of Greensboro’s Water Resources Department, WSAA was contracted to complete a waterline in O’Henry Blvd. Although the missing segment is only 1000 feet long, the design is complicated by the presence of a fiber optic trunk line and the adjacent Highway 29 controlled access. WSAA was able to negotiate open cut of the roadway in order to avoid bore pits within the controlled access. WSAA is providing construction administration for the project.
Jaycee Park Stormwater Improvements
WSAA developed construction drawings and technical specifications for a stormwater retrofit project in support of the City’s NPDES Stormwater Permit. The project includes the construction of a bioretention cell, bioswales, replacement of existing parking with pervious pavement and installation of tree wells. The project is complicated by the need for vehicular and pedestrian access throughout the site during construction.
WSFCUC Projects
WSAA is currently providing services to WSFCUC on multiple projects as a subconsultant to various engineering firms. Projects include replacement of waterline and valves, repair and replacement of sanitary sewer lines and manholes and contract administration on elevated water tank professional services. These contracts are ongoing through 2020.
GSC Bus Parking Lot
In order to continue the implementation of the master plan, WSAA was contracted by the Greensboro Science Center to provide additional visitor parking and a bus parking lot. WSAA developed construction documents for the renovated and expanded parking lot and a new access road to Country Park. The plans were phased, so the site remained operational during construction. Municipal/State permitting, bidding services and construction administration services were provided for the $400,000 project.
Hemphill Library
WSAA served as the civil engineer for the City of Greensboro’s Hemphill Branch Library. Our services included site design to accommodate a 15,000 sq. ft. building with 83 parking spaces and an Outdoor Reading and Art Garden adjacent to the building. Civil services also included the design of an off site sanitary sewer main, bidding assistance and construction administration. WSAA was a subconsultant to J Hyatt Hammond.
Fire Station 13
WSAA was contracted to provide the design and construction documents for the bioretention cell at Fire Station 13. The design of the remainder of the site was complete by the City's Central Engineering Department but WSAA was asked to design the Bioretention Cell due to our watershed expertise.
Ole Asheboro Park
WSAA served at prime consultant for the design of a pocket park located just outside of downtown Greensboro in the historic Ole Asheboro neighborhood. This project is part of the City's redevelopment efforts in the neighborhood and will provide the community with beautiful gardens, walking trails, seating areas, and community space. WSAA provided construction documents, bidding assistance and construction administration.
Macedonia Subdivision
WSAA was the design engineer on the redevelopment of a small subdivision in the Macedonia neighborhood located in High Point, NC. Situated on a difficult parcel to develop the permitting required outside of the box thinking resulting in several design requirement variances being obtained including offsetting the street within the right-of-way and sidewalks that meander out of the right-of-way.
Stormwater BMP Inspections
In support of the City of High Point’s NPDES permit, WSAA completed an annual inspection of all required BMPs within the City of High Point’s jurisdiction. Each inspection included a field visit and review of BMP functionality, including depth measurements used to develop a sediment profile. A report on each BMP was developed and included pictures of the device and any required maintenance items. Once the BMPs were repaired, a follow-up inspection was performed.
